1. Remaining in the current role<\/h4>\n

Staying in the current role does not mean that the job scope will always have to be the same. You can request to redesign your current job scope to cater to your interest while still benefiting the organization. For example, from doing product marketing to company branding activities.<\/p>\n

If you are already satisfied with your current job, there is no need to force a change. Some people prefer to be competent in what they are doing and avoid creating unnecessary disruptions in their daily life.<\/p>\n <\/div>

2. Vertical<\/strong><\/h4>\n

After working for several years, most people aspire to move into management-level role for various reasons, probably a passion for nurturing new associates, a higher remuneration or as a steppingstone to an even higher role. However, this usually comes with greater responsibility and commitment. The vertical move could be internal or to another organization.<\/p>\n <\/div>

3. Horizontal<\/h4>\n

If your current job scope is not desirable, you can consider moving horizontally to a similar level role of a different job scope if you are equipped with the necessary skills. For example, from a technical engineer moving to become a sales representative. A horizontal move to a role that is less stressful may be desirable for someone seeking work-life balance as well.<\/p>\n

You can consider moving horizontally for strategic reasons to gain experience and skills for a future role. For example, a marketing executive moving into a communications role in preparation of a marcomms role in the future.<\/p>\n <\/div>

4. Career Change<\/h4>\n

This may include taking a leap of faith into a totally new job which you may not be competent in. People usually do this for their passion and taking a pay cut for that can be common. For example, an accountant who decides to seek her passion in culinary and becomes a chef.<\/p>\n
